About
Hi – My name is Jane Kirsch and I’m a 60-something single woman, mom and grandmother who’s been around a lot of blocks. I’ve lived in 8 states and have had over a dozen different careers. I am an information junkie who loves to learn all sorts of things and help others find what they need.
I started this consulting business called Life and Work by Design in early 2005 and it’s growing and expanding as I move from one-on-one coaching to teaching workshops to holding teleclasses and producing self-guided workbooks. All of these efforts help other mature adults find what’s important to them and begin to make choices and decisions that result in a happier, better life.
If you think about it, this phase of our lives from 55 – 75 feels like adolescence all over again. Our bodies are doing strange and frightening things that we can’t control; the gravy-train is over and there will be no more paychecks for some; the future is completely unknown at this point.
If we don’t have a plan we might drift through the next 20 years or so and end up wondering why we didn’t
a) take better care of ourselves
b) plan our finances better
c) do something we can be proud of
Life and Work by Design came about when I re-invented myself in 2002 after losing my income without any notice. I had big decisions to make and in the end, the outcome was good. I moved 800 miles to be closer to my family and created a new life for myself in Philadelphia. I worked for a major corporation as a marketing rep for a while but soon realized that I am a self-employed sort of person and did a lot of soul searching to find my calling.
I am now teaching (which I always loved) adults how to approach this third phase of life which we inaccurately call retirement. We’ve got at least another 15 years to “grow up”. That can look like a wonderful opportunity to learn, travel, grow and have a great time or a terrifying period of loss of identity, structure, and meaning.
But the good news is that we have the ability to make it whatever we want. Maybe you have a life-long dream, maybe you just want to be more involved in your community. Whatever you are hoping for, I have resources, processes and inspiration to help you get there.
We’re all on a journey and there aren’t many directions to follow – we’re making it up as we go. Come along with me and let’s see if we can find the way to a satisfying life that feeds our body, mind and soul and have a little fun along the way.
